Another New Reading Challenge

Ah hell! Someone, who will remain nameless, has convinced me that since I am starting new series anyway with my 100 Book Challenge, I should do this one as well: 1st in a Series Challenge. I have completed the first book in one series so far:

  1. Dark Lover by J.R. Ward - my wonderful cousin told me about this series of books, and they seem to be right up my alley. To be honest, there's not much out there that isn't right up my alley!
  2. The Whole Truth by Nancy Pickard. Haven't jumped into the rest of the series yet, but they're on my list!
  3. The Freak by Carol Matas - young adult novella written by a Winnipegger!

New Reading Challenge

Well, since someone pointed out to me that I do read a lot of library books, I figured that I might as well join another reading challenge: Support Your Local Library Reading Challenge. My problem is, while I check a lot of books out, I don't always get them read. Mayhaps this might be my inspiration to do so. And then consequently, I'll probably take more books out.

You know it's bad when the library staff is going to the shelf to pick up your holds before you even get to the counter. Hang out here much? My husband is fond of asking, "How's the gang?" every time I go to the library (Simpson's reference.) Hardy, har, har, says I. Ah well, I've been going to my library branch for as long as I can remember, and I wouldn't trade those memories for anything. Books have been good to me. My grandmother once told me "Take care of your books; they will be your friends forever."

Might as well start the list:

  1. Back Up by Jim Butcher - a stand alone tie-in to his Harry Dresden series, which by the way is fantastic!
  2. The Beast of Noor by Janet Lee Carey - a young adult novel, but my reasoning is that it wasn't around when I was a young adult, so I'm reading it as an old adult!
  3. The Whole Truth by Nancy Pickard
  4. How To Talk to a Widower by Jonathan Tropper
  5. Wenny Has Wings by Janet Lee Carey - another young adult novella - kinda hard to read emotionally, but well written.
  6. Dragon's Keep by Janet Lee Carey - see a trend here?
  7. The Nature of Rare Things by Derek Wilson - second in his series about paranormal investigator Nat Gye
  8. The Handmaid and the Carpenter by Elizabeth Berg - a retelling of the meeting of Mary and Joseph
  9. The Freak by Carol Matas - young adult novella written by a Winnipegger
  10. Vision by Carol Matas - second in the trilogy
  11. Far by Carol Matas - final one in the trilogy...left questions!

Updated for now, but most of my next reads will be library books!

Finished Book 1

Finally finished The Lovely Bones. Don't know exactly what I was expecting, but now I think that I need to read something a little lighter - funnier and maybe sexier...who knows!

Books in The Challenge

I'll have to try to limit my reading to one book at a time, as I have a nasty (some would say) habit of starting more than one at a time...well, it truly depends on the situation. I'm not going to bring a big hardcover to an appointment, when I can bring my Kindle! Sanity prevails in this situation.

Well, I've decided to start my 100+ Book Challenge with one that has been sitting on my shelf for a while, and has been passed around, and I'll add each book that I've finished here instead of starting a new post!

  1. The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold
  2. Dark Lover by J.R. Ward
  3. Backup by Jim Butcher
  4. The Beast of Noor by Janet Lee Carey
  5. The Whole Truth by Nancy Pickard
  6. How to Talk to a Widower by Jonathan Tropper
  7. Wenny has Wings by Janet Lee Carey
  8. Dragon's Keep by Janet Lee Carey
  9. The Nature of Rare Things by Derek Wilson
  10. The Handmaid and the Carpenter by Elizabeth Berg
  11. The Freak by Carol Matas
  12. Vision by Carol Matas
  13. Far by Carol Matas

Here's hoping that I can get on a bit of a roll!

And as of Feb 4th, I can. Broke my foot on Feb 3 carrying the dog down the stairs...missed the bottom step, which I've done in the past, but not with a 30+ lb dog in my arms. Had no way to catch myself and down I went! Walking boot for 3 weeks at least, so I am somewhat homebound. I don't think I could get my boots on to drive anyway!

New Challenges

Well, 2010 will bring about changes and challenges, that's for certain! Decided to put a dent into my extensive library by participating in the 100 Book Challenge http://j-kaye-book-blog.blogspot.com/2009/11/new-2010-reading-challenge-100-reading.html. I hope that I can meet and exceed this!
